Registered Behavioral Technician

The School-Based Registered Behavior Technician will work under the supervision of a BCBA to provide intensive behavior support services to students. The RBT will work collaboratively with teachers and other support staff to implement behavior support plans for students that require consistent and significant behavioral support during the school day. The Registered Behavior Technician will meet all of the requirements of RBT certification. This is not an instructional support position, although the RBT may provide some instructional support to students as needed.

Registered Behavioral Technicians will: 

  • Understand and apply the basic principles of ABA in classroom settings as directed.

  • Assess student needs and provide interventions to redirect behavior

  • Collect and submit data needed for Functional Behavioral Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans. (BIP)

  • Implement Behavior Intervention Plans to affect behavior changes

  • Regularly review and remain well-versed in a multitude of BIPs in order to implement the plans and monitor plans for multiple students at the same time if needed

  • Provide direct consultation to the BCBA specific to analysis of data and recommendations for modifications or revisions to BIPs

  • Model implementation of Behavior Intervention Plans for paraprofessionals and staff

  • When required, provide physical intervention for students demonstrating unsafe behaviors

  • Perform and document the district approved restraint and seclusion methods; as well as participate in yearly crisis intervention training provided by the district

  •  Participate as a member of the school crisis team

  • Attend department meetings with the BCBA and other RBTs if needed.

  • Maintain consistency of Behavioral Intervention Plans by communicating and providing input to teachers and other support staff

  • May work with multiple students whom are a wide-variety of age ranges, as assigned by the case manager and/or BCBA.
