Speech Language Pathologist Assistant

Under the direction of an SLP, the SLPA will carry out treatment plans and provide direct therapy for young students with a variety of developmental disabilities. He or she may assist with assessments/screenings, in the preparation of reports, and with treatment planning. The SLPA will primarily however provide direct treatment individually and in a small group setting, following documented treatment plans developed by the SLP. The SLPA will assist in preparation of materials, document student performance, and report
information to the SLP. The SLPA may provide instruction to students and teachers on the use of augmentative and alternative communication devices.
The SLPA will treat students who present with a variety of disabilities and diagnoses including children with articulation and language delays, children who present with a variety of disabilities and diagnoses including children who have been diagnosed with Autism, chromosomal abnormalities, children with hearing difficulties, and other children who struggle to find success through social communication in school. The SLPA will meet in-person with elementary age students to also address delays in articulation, language expression, understanding, literacy, phonology, voice, fluency, and social pragmatics. The SLPA will collect data on measurable and attainable student goals. He or she will
facilitate students in meeting them by using a variety of evidence-based therapeutic techniques that are chosen to keep students' interest and to facilitate meaningful communication in both social and academic settings.
