Adapted Physical Education
The school-based Adapted Physical Education (APE) Teacher/Specialist provides direct instruction to students and consultation to parents and teachers in the area of physical education for students identified with more extensive physical needs than general P.E. can provide. The Adapted Physical Education Specialist will use instructional procedures that facilitate development and are aligned with students' Individualized Education Plan (IEP) goals. APE specialists meet with students one to one or in group therapy sessions to address the individual needs of students with physical and/or developmental disabilities. They participate in the IEP process by reporting on student assessments and progress as well as collaborating with team members and families regarding goal development.
